Wildfire Briefing with Governor Gordon
Governor Gordon and Partnering Agencies Address Wildfire Inter-agency Collaboration and the Wildfire Season.
On June 26th, Governor Mark Gordon along with Bill Crapser, Wyoming State Forestry Division, Mary Jo Rugwell, Bureau of Land Management, Brian Ferebee, U.S. Forest Service, Willy Watsabaugh, Wyoming Rural Firefighters Association, and partnering agencies, discussed Wyoming’s fire outlook for 2019 and wildfire preparedness during a fire briefing.
All of the speakers acknowledged the importance of efficient and effective inter-agency collaboration between local, state, and federal partners related to wildfires.
Wyoming State Forester, Bill Crapser said that the “[Wyoming State Forestry Division] appreciates the strong inter-agency collaboration from the rural volunteer fire departments to its state and federal partners. [The Division] looks forward to working with them this coming wildfire season.”
While the 2019 wildfire season has been delayed due to a cooler, wet summer, Crapser mentioned how the fuels are building up and the season could ramp up depending upon when the state dries out and the temperatures increase. Governor Gordon and partners both stressed the importance of firefighter and public safety during wildfires. They ask that the public stay safe this summer season, noting the importance of preventing human-caused wildfires.
