How the collision unfolded
Investigators report the pickup’s passenger-side wheels rode onto the gravel edge for a stretch before it struck a delineator post and continued through a roadside driveway. After hitting two more posts the vehicle returned to the roadway but then overcorrected.
The overcorrection initiated a passenger-side-first slide that carried the truck off the opposite shoulder. The vehicle briefly righted itself but then climbed an embankment, became airborne for what the patrol described as a substantial distance, and landed on its side in an open area away from the road. The truck rolled and ultimately came to rest on its roof.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and did not survive the crash.
