Historic Atlas Theater Receives Beautification Award

Historic gem of downtown Cheyenne completes second phase of renovations.

The Historic Atlas Theater recently completed the second phase of a multi-phase renovation and historic preservation project and garnered the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce’s Beautification Award by the Red Carpet Committee.

The 130 year old building features a glistening new facade out front and a beautiful new color palette throughout the interior, along with much needed air conditioning and other amenity upgrades inside. The facade features a historically accurate color scheme as determined by extensive research by the projects architect, Glen Garrett and ultimately  selected by the public and approved by the Cheyenne Little Theater Players Board of Directors.

Future improvements for the performance venue will include a marquee, electronic billboards and upgrades to the front end box office.

Originally opened as a candy shop on the street level and office spaces in the upper two floors in 1887, it was converted to a performance hall in 1908 with the addition of the auditorium. Throughout it’s storied history, it has also served as a hotel, a movie theater and a night club before its current theater arrangement, which it has served as for the CLTP since 1966.
