F.E. Warren AFB Welcomes New Commander
Col. Stacy Jo Huser Relinquishes Command of the “Mighty 90” to Col. Peter Bonetti in a Ceremony Friday
Colonel Stacy Jo Huser handed over the reigns of the 90th Missile Wing to Col. Peter M. Bonetti in a formal Change of Command Ceremony at F.E. Warren AFB Friday morning. With glistening blue skies over the Argonne Parade Field, a large crowd watched as a Col. Peter Bonetti was installed as the Commander of the Wing by Major General Fred Stoss, Commander of the 20th Air Force.
“Selecting a Wing Commander is one of the most screened and careful processes we do in the Air Force”, said Major General Stoss. “People are developed over many, many years for this job and General Bonetti is now at that point. As Stacy Jo rotates out and goes to Stratcom to become the Commander Action Group Director, I foresee stars falling on Stacy’s shoulders in about a year. And years after that, I see many stars falling on her shoulders. Pete is from the same pedigree and I see Pete graduating as a Wing Commander and moving very much in the same direction.”
Colonel Huser assumed command of the “Mighty 90” in June of 2017, overseeing the wing’s 4,200 military, civilian and contractor personnel who defend the United States with combat-ready Airmen and nuclear forces. Under her direction, the Wing’s mission is to provide strategic nuclear deterrence by operating, maintaining, securing and supporting 150 Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles which are constantly ready to launch at the direction of the President of the United States.
“It’s been an honor serving with General Stoss and Laura in 20th Air Force. We have amazing airmen who are filled with pride, empowered and inspired and the two of you have helped to foster that in our airmen,” said Huser. “To the men and women of the 90th Missile Wing and your beautiful families, it’s been a real honor,” she added, pausing briefly to collect herself. “You are incredible leaders and you are selfless airmen, so thank you very much for letting Tim and I be a small part of your lives.”
Colonel Bonetti takes over command of the 90th missile Wing after serving the last two years as Vice Commander of the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, MT. There he helped guide the wing’s 4,000 personnel who defend the United States with combat-ready Airmen and nuclear forces. They are responsible for base support, maintenance, security and operation of Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles located throughout a 13,800 square-mile complex in central Montana.
“Wow, this is an amazing ceremony”, said Bonetti, in his first address to FE Warren AFB personnel and dignitaries in attendance. “I am incredibly excited to be here, and Natalie and I are very humbled to be a part of the 90th Missile Wing. Together we will continue to be the crown jewel of the nuclear missile community and prove this everyday with hard work and focus. For this sacrifice I am eternally grateful to all of you. I couldn’t be more honored or humbled to stand here today and join Team Warren and the Mighty 90 as your commander.”
Colonel Bonetti entered the Air Force in 1988 and received his commission in 1995 through the Air Force Officer Training School. He has served in a variety of positions within missile and space launch operations, including crew commander, instructor, senior evaluator, flight commander and executive officer. His staff assignments include United States Africa Command, Headquarters Air Force and Air Force Space Command. He was selected for multiple Air Force intern programs. Prior to his assignment as Vice Commander, Colonel Bonetti was the deputy director of the Resources and Assessments Directorate, United States Africa Command, Stuttgart, Germany.
