Haley English was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of Jan. 21.
English, who is in eighth grade at McCormick Junior High, moved to Cheyenne in seventh grade. According to the selection committee she immediately made an impact.
“She is very outgoing, personable and acts as a mentor for her fellow students,” members of the selection committee said. “Haley is an exceptional student.”
English participates in cross country, chorus and theater on top of maintaining a 4.0 GPA. “I am very grateful to receive this reward,” English said.
In her free time, English frequently volunteers at the COMEA Shelter where she serves meals to the homeless. She organized a blanket drive for the COMEA Shelter before winter break and she said she was able to collect 15 blankets.
“I have a big heart for homeless people so I want to help them,” English said. “I thought it would be cool to do a blanket drive because in Wyoming it’s so cold at night. When I handed them out, it was so great to see the smiles on their faces.”
