National Greasy Food Day
The Board of Public Utilities (the Board) would like to wish everyone a happy National Greasy Food Day. Whether you decide to dig into some fried chicken, pizza, french fries, or deep fried Oreos, remember to never pour the hot, melted fats, oil or grease down the drain. This grease can quickly form a clog and is a major cause of sewer backups into your and/or your neighbors’ homes. In fact the Board removes about 4,500 gallons of pipe clogging fats, oils and grease every month from the Dry Creek Water Reclamation Plant.
Dispose of fats, oils and grease by pouring greasy and oily waste into an empty container like a can. Let the can cool and then throw it away in the garbage in a sealed bag to avoid spillage. Scrape food from pots, pans and plates into the trash prior to washing, not into the garbage disposal. Whether it’s drippings off left over fryer oil, or bacon grease – fats, oils and grease
should never be washed down the drain.
