Thoughts from Dale Steenbergen –
First, a shout out to the boys of Redbone who sang this awesome song: Come and get your love, Cheyenne! We live in an amazing community, and we need to start acting like it. Perhaps it’s not quite going up to “The Spirit in the Sky” but, in my opinion, it is the next best thing to heaven. We have a few folks walking around like BAD BAD Leroy Brown convincing us that we live in the city described by Marvin Gaye’s Inner City Blues. I understand that we are not perfect, and we are not immune from the rest of the world. We have our share of political upheaval with redistricting, a congressional race of national interest, an unsettled future of the energy industry, a lack of housing, and a workforce that’s harder to find than the victim in the night the lights went out in Georgia.
Cheyenne, take a lesson from Cool and the Gang and Celebrate Good Times. There’s a party going on right here. Cheyenne is the northern anchor of the front range and hotter than George Jones’ two-dollar pistol. Our economy is hoppin’ and a-boppin’ like the Rockin’ Robin. We are blessed, we are growing, and we are advancing. We didn’t build this city on rock and roll, but we did build it on the strength and character of our people. Cheyenne, I am proud of you. Your Chamber of Commerce is proud to fight to keep our little corner of Wyoming strong.
I understand that, for some of you, happiness is Cheyenne in the rear view mirror, but if you listen to Mac Davis you will be reminded that happiness is actually Cheyenne growing nearer and dearer. Heads up Cheyenne, our community deserves our best, but it only gets our best when we are positive and willing to see what we can be.
