Great Lakes Airlines Stopped Operations

Last night, Great Lakes Airlines stopped all flight operations.

As the only air service provider in Cheyenne, the local airport currently does not have an active airline operating in the area. The announcement of their closure happened via their website and Facebook page. The listing specified that “all scheduled flights are canceled effective immediately.”

According to a Wyoming Tribune Eagle Article, “The company has not declared bankruptcy, though. According to the statement, it “will continue to operate certain segments of the business,” including support for Aerodynamics Inc. flights between Denver and South Dakota cities.”
The airline is one of few headquarters located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Seeing this decline in business for this airline service provider stems primarily from flight reliability concerns and was previously declared in past announcements regarding the company because of pilot shortages. In this same announcement it was released that they owed the Cheyenne Regional Airport a minimum of $80,000 in lease payments.
Great Lakes Airlines has done much for the industry and has been an important part of the transportation fabric for the greater Cheyenne area.  According to DIA, Great Lakes provided significant training of competent pilots and will be missed.
