The Downtown Core made the Splash Pad a priority and is making extensive movement funding the project.
The initial formation of The Downtown Core was to unite the area’s local economic development entities, focus efforts on downtown transformations and improvements, and to enhance vibrancy. Having more family amenities in downtown, like the Splash Pad, was made a primary interest of the group. The City of Cheyenne approved $250k towards the Splash Pad, requiring only $300k additionally needed to fund the project to meet the overarching cost of $550k. Visit Cheyenne has been heading the fundraisers in partnership with City Council members. Various other fundraisers have been hosted at local businesses including; Luxury Dinner, Provision Wine & Spirits, The Plains Hotel, Coffee Depot, Fridays in the Asher and many more.
“This kind of downtown amenity is great for all those who live downtown, who live in the area and is great for even visitors.” shared Vicki Dugger, Executive Director of the DDA/Mainstreet.
Additionally, the local youth are making strides in fundraising in collecting donations in place of birthday gifts to contribute to the Splash Pad, even providing funds from their hard work doing chores throughout their neighborhoods towards the cause. There is such excitement around this addition to the community that even a local elementary school classroom raised $167 among students at Henderson Elementary.
“Parents are happy when their kids are happy. The splash pad will be a great addition to the community, creating a positive environment for families.” expressed Downtown Core Founder, Jim Hearne.
Currently with the grassroots fundraising efforts by Visit Cheyenne and others, the project has obtained over $100k, with the need to still fund $200k to reach the final $300k noted goal. Large contributions include the DDA/Mainstreet at $30k, a 150th Anniversary Committee donation of $15k, Visit Cheyenne at $50k, and various community support reaching above $7k.
The overall project funds must be raised by spring of 2019.
